Saddle Up For Montana’s Long List Of Rodeos
Montana was settled in large part by cowboys, so it’s natural that rodeos are a major part of life here. Most towns have at least one rodeo each summer and many have events year-round.
Small-town rodeo fans will love the events held each year in Hamilton under the shadow of the Bitterroot Mountains. Out on the plains, you’ll find spirited rodeos in Shelby, Miles City, and Harlowton.
Bozeman is home to the Copper Spring Ranch Derby, which is usually held in the fall. Kalispell hosts the Brash Winter Series Rodeo throughout the winter, making this spot perfect if you want to mix skiing with bull riding. Come May you’ll find the MSU College Rodeo in Bozeman and make sure to make it to Miles City for that town’s famous Bucking Horse Sale.
Tiny Dillon hosts an NRA event each spring with a respectable purse, while middle school riders come to Hamilton each June for the Montana High School State Rodeo Association Junior High Division State Finals Rodeo.
At the gates to Yellowstone you can attend the Gardiner Rodeo each June, and Columbia Falls hosts a Brash Rodeo Summer Series once the weather turns warm.
Dillon Jaycee Rodeo & Parade
Set for Labor Day weekend, the Dillon Jaycee Rodeo & Parade takes place in Dillon, Montana. Known as Montana’s Biggest Weekend, the festivity is held at the JC Building and Beaverhead County Fairgrounds.
The Dillon Jaycees festival features events like Wild Horse Race Calcutta, New West Rodeo, and Labor Day Parade – plus usual celebration staples like food, shopping, games, and live entertainment.
Montana Pro Rodeo Hall & Wall of Fame
During your exploration of Montana, be sure to spend quality time in the vibrant city of Billings. This "Star of the Big Sky Country" is home to many attractions, including Pompeys Pillar National Monument, Pictograph Cave State Park, ZooMontana and the Montana Pro Rodeo Hall and Wall of Fame.
This wonderful Wall of Fame monument is located on the north side of town, by MetraPark Arena. This fine monument, completed in 2002, honors those individuals who have contributed to Montana's western heritage.
View the eighteen-foot bronze sculpture of Dan Mortensen, a six-time World Champion saddle bronc rider on bronc Tee Box, the last work created by artist R.F. Rains. The sculpture is joined by the brick and granite Wall of Fame, containing the names of previous professional rodeo champions.
An additional wall was constructed honoring the Montana Pro Rodeo Queens, Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit Champions and other Montana Pro Rodeo competitors.
Northwest Montana Fair & Rodeo
Plan for a full day of fair rides and rodeo thrills in Montana. The Northwest Montana Fair & Rodeo is a fabulous five-day rodeo held in Kalispell. This annual rodeo features a wonderful variety of events. From riding the carnival rides to entering a cookie in the crafty cookie contest, there's plenty to do for the whole family. Enjoy summer-time fun in Montana at the Rodeo.
Fair highlights include the wild pony races, Justin mutton bustin, 4-H contests, Ram PRCA Rodeo events, the horse show and the Great American Pie Contest. The fine arts and photography contests, pig wrestling, demolition derby and the concerts round out the fun. While in Kalispell, get out and make the most of your stay – a fair and rodeo should be just the ticket.
Richland County Fair & Rodeo
Visit Montana and head for Sidney. Found in the far northeast of the state, Sidney is a charming city where during the summer you'll want to check out the Richland County Fair & Rodeo. An official county event as of 1920, the Richland County Fair & Rodeo has traditionally kicked off at the beginning of August. Drawing nearly 30,000 visitors every year, the Richland County Fair & Rodeo is a popular local event.
