Most ski areas are set near Salt Lake City like the famed Snowbird, or Ogden area slopes like Powder Mountain Resort, Snowbasin Resort, and Wolf Mountain Resort.

Though southern Utah is better known nationwide as an epicenter for national parks, several ski areas attract visitors to this scenic landscape as well. Set near Beaver, Eagle Point offers 42 runs on 600 skiable acres. And in the Dixie National Forest near Cedar City, Brian Head Ski Resort boasts a 9,600-foot base summit – making it Utah's highest ski area.

Alta Ski Area

Drawing 514 inches of annual snowfall, Alta Ski Area is set in northern Utah in the Wasatch Mountains. Located just east of Sandy and southern Salt Lake City, Alta was established in 1939 ­ making it one of Utah’s oldest ski areas. The Alta Ski Area features a base elevation of 8,530 feet, and 2,200 skiable acres. Alta skiers choose from 116 runs, and a seven-unit chairlift system.

Beaver Mountain Ski Area

Created by Harold and Luella Seeholzer, Beaver Mountain Ski Area is located near Logan in northern Utah. Construction began in 1945, and Seeholzer's dream of having a double chair lift to the top of Beaver Mountain was completed in 1970. This family-owned ski area features 47 runs on 664 skiable acres, plus four chair lifts and two terrain parks. The season-long calendar of events include Demo Days, Dew the Mountain Slalom Race, and the Snoopy Carnival.

Brian Head Ski Resort

Set in the city of Brian Head, the Brian Head Ski Resort is located in southern Utah in the Dixie National Forest. Set just east of Interstate 15 and Cedar City, Brian Head Resort features 71 runs across 650 acres.

Home to Giant Steps and Navajo mountains, the Brian Head ski season offers night skiing, tubing, three terrain parks, and the famous bag jump. With a base elevation of 9,600 feet, the Brian Head ski area is the highest ski resort in Utah.

Brighton Ski Resort

Found in Big Cottonwood Canyon, the Brighton Ski Resort is located in northern Utah east of Salt Lake City. Set closest to Park City, the Brighton ski area boasts 66 ski runs across 1,050 skiable acres. Utah’s first ski resort, Brighton yields three terrain parks and night skiing – all in the public Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Brighton has a base elevation of 8,755 feet, and draws 500 inches of annual snowfall.

Canyons Resort

Set on 4,000 skiable acres, Canyons Resort ski area is Utah's largest single ski and snowboard resort. Tucked into the northern Utah mountains of Park City, the area offers 182 trails, from beginner to advanced. With an average annual snow fall of 355 inches, the runs, natural half pipes, bowls, and terrain park are ready for action.

The Canyons ski area offers ski and snowboard lessons and equipment rentals – plus shopping, dining, and year-round events. Heli-Ski Tours are also available for extreme skiers ready to tackle the Wasatch backcountry.

Deer Valley Resort

Set in the Wasatch Range, Deer Valley Resort is an alpine ski area located in northern Utah near Park City. Found just east of Salt Lake City, Deer Valley features a base elevation of 6,570 feet in the Wasatch Range. The Deer Valley Ski Resort boasts 300 inches of snowfall each year, and 100 ski runs across more than 2,000 acres. Deer Valley also features a 24-unit lift system, yielding a lift capacity of over 50,000 visitors an hour.

Eagle Point Ski Area

Established in 2010, Eagle Point Ski Area boasts over 400 inches of the "Greatest Snow on Earth." Located near Beaver in central Utah, the ski area's five lifts provide access to 40 runs on more than 400 skiable acres.

Set in the Tushar Mountains, Eagle Point Ski Area offers a freestyle terrain, 18-foot half pipe, and tubing park. The Outpost Grill provides a warm break for those ready to pop their skis off and warm up by the fireplace, while the rest of the resort offers lessons, rental equipment, equipment repair, and children's programs.

Park City Mountain Resort

Established in 1963, the Park City Mountain Resort is a heavily visited ski area set in northern Utah in Park City. Located east of Salt Lake City, Park City features 114 ski runs across 3,300 skiable acres.

Boasting 365 inches of annual snowfall and a top elevation of 10,000 feet, the Park City ski area offers 19 lifts, four terrain parks, and night skiing. This site of the 2002 Winter Olympics also features the 3.5-mile Homerun trail for advanced skiers.

Powder Mountain Resort

Located east of Eden, the Powder Mountain Resort is a 7,000-acre ski area set in northern Utah near Ogden. Found north of Salt Lake City, Powder Mountain is said to be the nation’s largest ski area by acreage.

Powder Mountain ski area yields 144 runs – plus two terrain parks, night skiing, snowcat skiing, and side country skiing. Established in 1971, Powder offers 350 annual inches of snowfall, and a lift capacity of over 6,000 skiers per hour.

Snowbasin Resort

Set in in Weber County, Snowbasin Resort is a ski area set in northern Utah near the city of Ogden. Found north of Salt Lake City at Mount Ogden, Snowbasin was established in 1939 – making it one of the nation’s oldest ski resorts.

Snowbasin Resort features 104 ski runs across 3,000 skiable acres. Host of the 2002 Winter Olympic alpine skiing events, Snowbasin draws 350 inches of annual snowfall. The ski season ranging from late-November to mid-April, Snowbasin also features three terrain parks.

Snowbird Utah

Opened in 1971, Snowbird Utah ski area is conveniently located 25 miles from Salt Lake City, and 29 miles from Salt Lake City International Airport. Over 17,000 skiers enjoy 85 runs over 2,500 skiable acres – all on over 500 inches of snowfall.

This northern Utah ski area also features a world-class health spa and conference center. Runs on Alta Ski Area are accessible from Snowbird – and SKIING magazine has ranked Snowbird and Alta the number one ski area several times.

Solitude Mountain Resort

Set in Big Cottonwood Canyon, Solitude Mountain Resort is a ski area located in Park City in northern Utah. Nestled in the Wasatch Mountains east of Salt Lake City, Solitude ski area features 64 ski runs on 1,200 acres.

Solitude also boasts eight chairlifts, the Solitude Nordic Center, and 500 inches of annual snowfall. Featuring a base elevation of 8,000 feet, Solitude Mountain also yields the 3.5-mile Honeycomb Trail for the advanced skier.

Sundance Resort

Set in the Wasatch Range, Sundance Resort is a 5,000-acre ski area located in northern Utah near Provo and Lehi. Home to Mount Timpanogos, Sundance Resort is owned by Robert Redford, and is partnered with the Sundance Film Festival.

Sundance Resort features night skiing, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing along with alpine runs. Also available at Sundance is the Cross-Country Ski Center, and stunning views from Bearclaw Cabin.

Wolf Mountain Resort

Set near the city of Eden, Wolf Mountain Resort is a ski area located in northern Utah in the city of Ogden. Found in Nordic Valley north of Salt Lake City, Wolf Mountain offers 20 runs across 100 skiable acres. Wolf Mountain ski area boasts a base elevation of 5,500 feet, and 350 inches of annual snowfall. Wolf also features night skiing, terrain parks, and a lift capacity of up to 2,800 skiers per hour.
