Journey Back in Time on Jurassic Adventures in Wyoming

Take a walk on the wild side with fun Jurassic adventures in Wyoming. The Wyoming Dinosaur Center in Thermopolis features one of the largest fossil quarries in the world. Named the Top Dinosaur Museum in America by America’s Best, the center offers over 30 mounted skeletons, dig sites, and exhibits.

See paleontologists at work in the prep lab and view the origins of different species in the Walk Thru Time exhibit. Medicine Lodge State Archaeological Site in Hyattsville is home to three museums with exhibits on natural history, archaeology and Native American petroglyphs.

Red Gulch Dinosaur Track Site near Shell was discovered in 1997. Explore the site where dinosaurs once roamed and see fossilized dinosaur footprints. Scientists have determined the tracks are from the Middle Jurassic period.

The Vore Buffalo Jump located between Sundance and Beulah is another source of bone artifacts. Used as bison trap by the prehistoric Plains Indians, the jump is a valuable resource for archaeologists. Visitors may view the site during the summer dig. Fossil Butte National Monument in Kemmerer boasts the largest deposit of freshwater fish fossils in the world. See a 13-ft. crocodile skeleton and view fossils of birds, plants, fish, and insects.

When your Wyoming visit has you in the north, near Shell, be sure to spend a day exploring the Red Gulch Dinosaur Tracksite. Discovered in 1997, this dinosaur tracksite is a coagulation of fossilized dinosaur footprints. These tracks are believed to have been made during the Middle Jurassic Period – close to 180 million years ago.

This unique museum, located in Thermopolis, was named the number one Dinosaur Museum in America by America's Best. Step in to learn about the Triassic, Jurassic and Creataceous periods.

Stroll through the Walk Through Time exhibit to learn about the history of dinosaur's existence. The Hall of Dinosaurs contains America's only Archaeopteryx, in the "Thermopolis Specimen" exhibit, "Jimbo", a Supersaurus and a thirty-five foot T-Rex.
