You’ll find some of the best hiking trails and rock climbing destinations around the Rocky Mountain region in Wyoming and can explore thousands of miles of trails that take you around Grand Teton National Park.

The Happy Jack Recreation Area is a popular destination for mountain biking and horseback riding. You can rent a horse for a day to enjoy the trails and see some of the best landscapes around Pole Mountain. This recreation area is a four-season destination and ideal for enjoying a variety of activities, including trail running and hiking during the summer months. If you happen to be here during the winter, you can head here for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing adventures.

Bighorn National Forest is the place to enjoy horseback riding and biking adventures during the warmer months. It’s home to more than 1,500 miles of trails and will take you around some of the most scenic routes around Grand Teton National Park. The forest is one of the most protected lands in Wyoming and encompasses more than 1.1 million acres of land. You’ll find several beautiful streams and lakes around this region and can enjoy long days of fishing in the crystal-clear waters.

If you’re interested in water sports during the summer, make your way to the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area to enjoy water skiing and other water activities. You’ll find the Flaming Gorge Reservoir here and this is a popular destination for rainbow trout fishing, boating, hiking, and tours of the Flaming Gorge Dam.

Spending your winter in Wyoming will give you plenty of excuses to go skiing, snowboarding, or snow tubing. You can spend your days ice climbing in the city of Cody, a place to explore frozen waterfalls around the Shoshone River. The city of Pinedale is where you’ll find the Jackson Hole Mountain ski area, a place where you can enjoy a ski or sleigh ride through the Jackson Hole Valley.

The city of Thermopolis is where you’ll find the largest mineral hot spring in the world so plan on dunking in one of the indoor or outdoor pools at the State Bath House during your visit. There’s no admission fee to enter the bath house and it can be a fun activity for the whole family.

One of the most iconic recreation areas in Wyoming is Grand Teton National Park. It encompasses more than 300,000 acres of land and connects to Yellowstone National Park. You can simply drive across the John D. Rockefeller Jr. Memorial Highway to reach Yellowstone National Park to explore Jackson Lake, Grand Teton, and the Teton Mountain Range. It’s the perfect destination for hiking, boating, rock climbing, skiing, and snowshoeing.

You’ll find a couple of other state parks that are worthy of an adventure in any season. Whether you’re in the mood for fishing or just want to head off on a boating adventure, make your way to destinations like Seminoe State Park for your outdoor excursion. Sinks Canyon State Park is the place to go cavern exploring. The canyon features an underground limestone cavern fed by the Popo Agie River and is a fun destination for families.
