Top Sports Venues in Florida

The Sunshine State is blessed with many high rated stadiums, ballparks and arenas. From baseball to college football, check out a game at one of the state’s best spot.

Originally opened in 1987 as Joe Robbie Stadium, The NFL’s Miami Dolphins and UM’s Miami Hurricanes now call the Hard Rock Stadium their home. Located in Miami, Florida, the Hard Rock Stadium is also the annual site for the Orange Bowl and is slated to host Super Bowl LIV in 2020. Aside from sporting events, the stadium also hosts some of the most popular musical artists including Jay Z, Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift, the Eagles, and The Black Eyes Peas.

While in Miami, watch the NBA’s Miami Heat make a full court press at the FTX Arena, or visit the FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, FL to see the NHL’s Florida Panthers shoot the winning puck. Osceola Heritage Park

A major destination for sports fans, the Osceola Heritage Park is a large sports and entertainment complex in Kissimmee. Check out the Osceola Heritage Park at any time of year in the the Orlando area and discover all sorts of exciting sports action.

You can experience the Silver Spurs Arena, the KVLS Pavilion, or the Osceola County Stadium – the spring training home of the Houston Astros. The Silver Spurs Arena seats 10,500 fans, and hosts the annual Silver Spurs Rodeo. It also hosts concerts, high school basketball games, graduations, and once was the home of the Florida Seals of the Southern Professional Hockey League.

Amway Center

The top venue for sports, concerts, and entertainment, Orlando's Amway Center is an event highlight of the central Florida region. Opened on October 1, 2010, this state of the art center can be arranged in multiple seating configurations, fitting between 16,486 and 20,000 fans and attendees.

Part of Orlando's master downtown redevelopment plan and located near Lake Eola Park, SeaWorld Orlando, Universal Orlando, and Walt Disney World, the area hosts professional basketball games, college basketball games, ice hockey games, front stage and end stage concerts, arena football games, and wrestling matches.

Basketball fans will likely recognize the arena right away – it is home to the Orlando Magic and it has previously hosted the 2012 NBA All-Star Game.

Cocoa Expo Sports Center

Constructed in 1964, the Cocoa Expo Sports Center is located on the eastern Florida coast in Cocoa. Covering 70 acres, the Cocoa Expo Sports Center features six baseball fields, four multi-purpose fields, three basketball courts, four volleyball courts, and much more.

The Cocoa Expo Sports Center also yields a 20,000-square-foot arena, and the 5,000-seat Cocoa Stadium of the original complex. Former home of the former MLB Colt 45's, the facility also offer the Joe Brinkman Umpire School, and Clint Hurdle's Big League Experience Camp.

Amalie Arena

Opened in 1996 as the Ice Palace, the Amalie Arena – as it's known today – is a multi-purpose venue found in Tampa. As you get set to explore Tampa and the surrounding area, plan a visit to the arena during the fall and check out an exciting Tampa Bay Lighting hockey game.

Sports fans are in luck when visiting Tampa – the Amalie Arena is home to the Tampa Bay Lighting of the NHL, and the Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League. The NHL seasons drops its first puck of the season in October and plays clear through to the spring of the next year while the AFL run from March into the end of July.

Raymond James Stadium

Opened in 1998, Raymond James Stadium is a premiere outdoor sports facility found in the Tampa Bay area. Primarily, the Ray Jay is the home stadium of the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Univeristy of South Florida Bulldogs during the fall.

Apart from the NFL games and NCAA games, the stadium hosts monster truck events, invitational, and show jumping equestrian events. And thanks to its balmy Tampa location, the Ray Jay has been selected to host high-profile events, including the Super Bowl and the annual FBS Outback Bowl.

Tropicana Field

Opened in 1990, Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg is the home ball park of the Tampa Bay Rays, and can be found just across the water from downtown Tampa. The Trop – seating between 34,000 and 42,000 – is a multi-purpose venue, hosting the annual college football game, Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl, since 2008.

The Major League Baseball season begins in April and plays through the fall into late October and sometimes early November – plan your visit to Tampa the surrounding area accordingly.

Whether you visit The Trop for a Rays game or if you take a stadium tour, be sure to visit the Ted Williams Museum, which celebrates the baseball and military careers of Ted Williams.

Ben Hill Griffin Stadium

Constructed in 1930, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is found on the University of Florida campus in Gainesville in northern Florida. The stadium honors Ben Hill Griffin Jr., a longtime supporter and fan of the Florida Gators football team.

Ben Hill Griffin Stadium remains the largest stadium in the Sunshine State, and the 11th largest college stadium in the world. Wear your blue and orange and show your Gator support joining over 90,000 fans during a home game.

Doak Campbell Stadium

Built in 1950, Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium is home field to the Florida State Seminoles football team. Located in Tallahassee, "Doak" seats over 82,000 football fans on Saturdays in the fall, as the 'Noles take on the Atlantic Coast Division.

Landmarks at Doak include "Unconquered," a 19-foot statue, the Bobby Bowden scupture, and Heritage Tower. Be sure to explore University Center – the large brick structure Doak Campbell Stadium is housed within – for a collection of FSU and Tallahassee attractions.

121 Financial Ballpark

Built in 2001, 121 Financial Ballpark is a minor league ballpark located in downtown Jacksonville in northeast Florida. The stadium primarily serves as the home field to the double-A Jacksonville Suns of the Southern League.

When the Suns aren’t in session, the stadium plays host to the Jacksonville Armada FC of the North American Soccer League. The stadium has also hosted the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament, the Southern League All-Star Game, and still hosts the annual Florida State Seminoles and the Florida Gators baseball game.

TIAA Bank Field

Home of the Jacksonville Jaguars, TIAA Bank Field is located in downtown Jacksonville in the heart of the northeast Florida region. Opened in 1995, the venue has hosted the Super Bowl, the Gator Bowl, and the annual Florida vs. Georgia rivalry college football game.

Up to 84,000 fans can be seated inside the stadium – while those who like a more secluded experience can take advantage of 11,200 club seats, 88 luxury suites, and one super suite.

VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena

Opened in 2003, the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena is a multi-use entertainment venue set in the heart of downtown Jacksonville. The arena is home to the Jacksonville Sharks of the Arena Football League, the Jacksonville Giants of the American Basketball Association, and the Jacksonville University Dolphins.

The 15,000-capacity venue hosts a variety of northeast Florida events, with past events including a USA Men’s Olympic basketball game, several WWE matches, and the PBR Built Ford Tough Series. Several big-name artists have performed at the Vet, like Elton John, Billy Joel, and Taylor Swift.

Blue Wahoos Stadium

Considered one of the finest minor league stadiums in the country, Blue Wahoos Stadium featuring Admiral Fetterman Field is home to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos – an MiLB Southern League baseball team that “took off” in 2012. Check it out on your next trip to Pensacola and the Panhandle region.

Located right along the water in downtown Pensacola, it’s walking distance from the stadium to museums and attractions along the waterfront, and a series of restaurants and bars along Palafox Street nearby. Enjoy views of the bay along with great baseball action from April through September.

FTX Arena

Located on the waterfront of Biscyane Bay in downtown Miami, the FTX Arena is the centerpiece sports and entertainment complex of the south Florida region.

Opened on December 31, 1999, the arena currently acts as the premiere concert venue in Miami and hosts the NBA champions Miami Heat - depending on the configuration, between 16,500 to 20,021 fans can fit inside the arena for games and events.

Apart from NBA games, the arena is also known for WWE events, headlining concerts, musical theatre, family events, and stage shows. For a little more of a privileged experience, the arena also features 2,105 club seats, 80 luxury suites, and 76 private boxes.

FLA Live Arena

Opened in 1998, the FLA Live Arena is a premier entertainment venues and the home ice of the Florida Panthers – one of two NHL teams in the state. The arena is located in Sunrise – just a short drive west of Fort Lauderdale in south Florida.

When the Panther's aren't shredding the ice against Eastern Conference foes, the venue is used for large-scale concerts, Professional Bull Riders events, and even Ultimate Fighter Championship matches. Moreover, FLA Live Arena has hosted the NHL All-Star Game, U.S. Presidential campaign events, and so much more.

LoanDepot Park

Home to the Miami Marlins of Major League Baseball, LoanDepot Park is found in Miami, just a few miles inland from Biscayne Bay in south Florida.

Opened for the 2012 baseball season, it features a maximum seating capacity of 37,442 and a retractable roof – the weather can change quickly in Miami. Along with Marlins games, it has hosted the second round of 2013 World Baseball Classic.

Prior to the opening of LoanDepot Park, the Marlins played all home games at Sun Life Stadium – home of the Miami Dolphins of the NFL. Along with the retractable roof, which takes around 14 minutes to fully open or close, the park features large and transparent outfield panels – essentially, the walls are panels you can see through and they rotate open, allowing for natural light and air.

Be sure to check out the Bobblehead Museum, the Clevelander Bar and Swimming Pool, and the Aquatic Home Plate Backstop.

Hard Rock Stadium

Opened in 1987, Hard Rock Stadium has since served as the flagship stadium for Miami and the south Florida region – current tenants include the Miami Dolphins of the NFL, and the University of Miami Hurricanes of the NCAA – while previous tenants have included MLB's Florida Marlins.

The stadium is also famous for hosting football championships – it has hosted five Super Bowl games, the annual Orange Bowl, and four BCS National Championship Games. As a multi purpose stadium, the stadium's capacity depends on the configuration – anywhere between 38,560 baseball fans to 80,120 football fans can fit in the stadium.

While it most famously is used for professinal sports, the stadium also hosts high profile events, including trade shows, RV and boat shows, religious ceremonies, and monster truck shows.

Bradenton Motorsports Park

Found along Interstate 75, the Bradenton Motorsports Park is located in on the west-central Florida coast in Bradenton. This Bradenton raceway features drag racing, grudge racing, and bracket racing, and more.

Bradenton Motorsports Park events include the Spring Break Shootout, Memorial Day Bracket Bash, Outlaw Drag Racing Championship, and much more. The track area also hosts shows, swap meets, and testing events.

Premier Sports Campus at Lakewood Ranch

Covering over 140 acres, the Premier Sports Campus at Lakewood Ranch is located near Bradenton on the west-central Florida coast. Consisting of 22 FIFA-regulated fields, the campus is ideal for soccer, lacrosse, football, and Frisbee.

Aside from sports fields, the Lakewood Ranch Premier Sports Campus also features meeting room space, locker rooms, retail areas, and concessions at every event. All fields are covered with Bermuda grass – eight of which feature evening lights.
