Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest
With a combined total area of 866,468 acres, the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest is a gem for outdoor exploration in northern Georgia. It's split into two different forests – Oconee making up more than 750,000 acres and Chattahoochee over 116,000. Explore the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest with a short drive from nearby East Ellijay. No matter what time of year it is when you visit, you'll find a wealth of outdoor recreation at Chattahoochee-Oconee.
Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest features hunting, horse back riding trails, mountain biking trails, hiking and plenty of bird watching areas. Make your way to Lake Russell or Lake Conasauga and try to land your share of trout and other assorted species on a spring or summer visit. Cruise alone Highway 180 or 60 and enjoy scenic views of northern Georgia foliage. Keep an eye out for Anna Ruby Falls, or the Sosebee Cove.
