Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park
Just minutes from Fort Oglethorpe in northern Georgia, Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park preserves Civil War military history as well as offering scenic hiking. There are three different park districts to explore, one in Georgia and the others nearby in Tennessee. The Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center, in Georgia, is home to the Fuller Gun Collection, displaying 300 pieces of Civil War weaponry.
Explore the battlefield itself with a seven-mile self-guided auto tour or hike one of the park's trails. At Lookout Mountain, in Tennessee, hiking trails lead to scenic vistas. The park's other unit, the Moccasin Bend National Archeological District, is also in Tennessee and preserves military supply routes. You can explore on foot on several hiking trails.
