Dorchester Academy National Historic Site & Museum
Located near Richmond Hill, the Dorchester Academy National Historic Site preserves an African American school that was founded after the Civil War to teach freed slaves. This Coastal Georgia attraction also hosted Dr. Martin Luther King's planning meetings for the 1963 Civil Rights March.
The site is open Tuesday through Saturday – plan your next visit to the Georgia coast accordingly. While there are many ways to experience a bit of American history in Georgia, few can match the exceptional quality and rich detail found at the Dorchester Academy National Historic Site.
