Martin Luther King Jr. Cultural Center

If you begin your travels in Lexington, add the Martin Luther King Jr Cultural Center to your itinerary. Hosted by the University of Kentucky, the Center offers opportunities for students to be part of dance and theater performances, film screenings and more. Audiences can revel in their creations, as well as attend lectures by well-known speakers. Over the years, those have included luminaries such as Maya Angelou and Bishop Desmond Tutu, among many others.  

The lively city of Lexington is not only home to the well-known Kentucky Horse Park, but it is also home to the University of Kentucky. While touring the campus of this fine university, the largest in Kentucky, make time to visit the Martin Luther King Jr. Cultural Center. Established in 1987, this wonderful center provides educational programs and support for students to help prepare them for global citizenry. Drive in from nearby Georgetown and explore.

Students have the opportunity to participate in the year-round programs, workshops, dance performances, theater performances, lectures, film screenings and concerts. Throughout the years, the center has hosted several well-known African American speakers and activists, including Muhammad Ali, Bishop Desmond Tutu, Spike Lee and Maya Angelou.
