Experience Kentucky Rides and Thrills

First-rate family fun can be found in amusement parks, waterparks and entertainment centers throughout Kentucky. Whether you are traveling with young children and are looking for mild rides and lazy rivers, or you are searching for spine-chilling thrill rides, you will find it in the Bluegrass State.

North Central
When the warm winds start to blow, eyes turn toward Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay. This family amusement park opens on weekends in April and then runs full-time until the season ends in September. Kentucky Kingdom has rides for everyone: bumper cars, Ferris wheels, thrilling roller coasters and a 5-D movie theater, among other attractions. Meanwhile, Hurricane Bay beckons with everything from a calm family lagoon to the Big Surf wave pool and spine-tingling water slides. It’s 63 acres of rides, playgrounds, food and fun in Louisville.

If the excitement of the driving twists and turns of go-kart racing call to you, a visit to Kart Kountry in Shepherdsville must be added to your Kentucky travels. Reportedly home to the longest go-kart track in the world, Kart Kountry offers fun for the entire family, and even features a kiddie track for your young drivers. Off the track, you’ll also find an arcade, miniature golf courses, batting cages and even bumper boats, when the weather allows.

Does your itinerary have you stopping near Richmond during the summer months? Paradise Cove Aquatic Center brings more watery fun. The center has dive features, a zero-depth entry for young children, slides, a rope swing and even a climbing wall.

South Central
Of course, visitors near Bowling Green do not want to miss a day at Beech Bend Park. This family spot has been delighting guests since 1898! Whether you are here to see the drag races along the strip, thunder down the wooden roller coaster or ease your way down the lazy river, there is something in this 379-acre park that will make you smile.

Cave City is home to Kentucky Action Park and Jesse James Riding Stables. The stables, among the largest in the state, provide gentle horses and guided rides along 500 acres of trails. It’s here that Jesse James reportedly roamed during the height of his bank robbing days and near where he hid in Outlaw Cave. The guided rides are suitable for the entire family, with children aged two to five riding with an adult.

Inside the Kentucky Action Park, you can enjoy the rush of the Alpine Slide and test your skills on the western-themed mini-golf course. If you are feeling adventurous, you can enjoy stunning views as you rise on a chairlift to begin your zip line trek through the woods. You can even race your friends or family on twin lines. The park also features bumper cars, go carts, trampoline, climbing wall and cave tours of Jesse James’ Outlaw Cave. And if you want a souvenir, you’ll love taking an old time photo to commemorate the day.

Western
Eddyville is home to the Venture River Water Park. If you’ve ever wanted to wind through a five-level slide house, you are in luck! Not only is their new “Wipe Out” slide house supersized, but it features three tunnel slides. There are flume slides, cruise slides and flushing buckets. There are enclosed body slides and giant flume slides. Race your friends or family head-first down the Matanascar. And if you are an adventurer, try the three-and-a-half story drops, rises and backwards thrills on The Cliffhanger.

Patti’s Settlement 1880’s is a family favorite in Grand Rivers. As the name would suggest, there’s a host of entertaining activities, and many harken back to the early 1880s settlements. Here you can pan for gold or take old time photos. Mini-golf awaits you, as do the remote control boats. The flowering gardens and flowing streams are always a delight, as is the award-winning restaurant. Don’t forget to visit the animal park before you go!

Eastern
While this portion of Eastern Kentucky is often referred to as Daniel Boone Country, Williamsburg is also home water park fun, as it’s home to the very popular Kentucky Splash Waterpark & Campground. Wave pools, lazy rivers, slide complexes and playhouses are among the favorite attractions here during the summer months. But the water park is not the only place for excitement. This park also hosts the Kentucky Falls Miniature Golf, a driving range and an arcade.

With all of these options, and numerous others, your trip to Kentucky is guaranteed to be filled with family entertainment, rides and excitement!
