One of the nation’s top racing spots is the Charlotte Motor Speedway. This motorsports complex is centered around a 1.5-mile quad oval track which hosts NASCAR races. Major events include the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, the Xfinity Series, and the Camping World Truck Series. In Greensboro, the premier track is the Piedmont Dragway, which hosts some of the nation’s most exciting drag races. In Sophia, race fans head for Caraway Speedway.
The Queen City takes its sports seriously, and there are major events going on every week. The Carolina Panthers play NFL action in the Bank of America Stadium – not far from where the Charlotte Hornets host NBA games. The Knights play International League baseball while the Checker are AHL favorites. You’ll find big thrills and family-friendly adventures in the Piedmont. Carowinds is the region’s largest amusement park – it has a huge variety of rides and a massive water park. Nearby, the Great Wolf Lodge Water Park is one of the biggest in the South.
