Greensboro’s compact downtown has a lot going on. The Blandwood Mansion is the home of a former governor and sports 1800s Italianate architecture and period décor. The Carolina Theatre is a historic landmark dating from 1927 – it’s a top venue for ballet, theater, opera, ballet, and other performing arts. Not far away, the Community Theatre of Greensboro is the spot for local productions and spirited events.
One of Greensboro’s top gathering spots is City Center Park, which is overlooked by some of the city’s tallest buildings and has fountains, a stage, and plenty of grassy lawns for lounging in the sun. LeBauer Park has more greenery and is where you can attend outdoor events and summer movies. Next door, the stately Greensboro Historical Museum has archives, collections, and artifacts chronicling the history of Greensboro and surrounding Guilford County. The Greensboro Hoppers play minor league baseball at First National Bank Field.
Bring your racket for a game of tennis at Latham Park, then lace up your running shoes for a jog on the Latham Park Greenway – it spans a pretty section of North Buffalo Creek. The Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden is a tranquil 7.5-acre park with sculpture, a gazebo, and well-tended gardens. Golfers will find plenty of holes to play at Greensboro Country Club, while more courses can be found at Starmount Forest Country Club and the sprawling Grandover Resort.
For thrills, head to Wet ‘n Wild Emerald Pointe, which is one of the region’s biggest water parks. Kids of all ages love the Greensboro Science Center, while the city’s role in the struggle for equality is honored at the International Civil Rights Museum. High art can be found at the Weatherspoon Art Museum, while the Greensboro Symphony and Greensboro Ballet perform for appreciative crowds. You can also attend the Wyndham Golf Championship, visit the headquarters of the Atlantic Coast Conference, or see a concert at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex.
