Theater Is Alive and Well In North Carolina
You’ll find exceptional theaters all across North Carolina, and with a busy calendar year-round there is almost always something going on. In Raleigh, the North Carolina Theatre puts on four mainstage shows each year and has a full professional cast. Also, in Raleigh, the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts includes an auditorium, concert hall, and an opera theater, plus a plaza where you can see outdoor shows.
The Carolina Theatre in Durham is part of a performing arts and cinema complex – the beautiful building was constructed in 1925. For something more modern, visit the Durham Performing Arts Center, which books national touring acts.
In Greensboro, the Triad Stage is a non-profit center which showcases regional talent. The Carolina Theatre, also in Greensboro, was built in the 1920s and hosts ballet, plays, and major events.
In tiny Waynesville, the beautiful Haywood Arts Regional Theatre has several stages and a regular roster of plays and live music, as well as a farm-to-table restaurant serving local fare. In Banner Elk you’ll find the Ensemble Stage, a professional theater which specializes in affordable productions. Head to Mars Hill to enjoy the Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre, which hosts musicals, plays, and live music.
Flat Rock Playhouse
On your next visit to Hendersonville in the mountain region of North Carolina, be sure to check out the Flat Rock Playhouse.
Imperial Centre for the Arts & Sciences
Few destinations in North Carolina can yield the kind of edifying fun you'll find at the Imperial Centre for the Arts & Sciences. Plan a trip to the Tar Heel State soon and head for the eastern section of the Piedmont region. Once there, enjoy a stay in Rocky Mount, a short drive from nearby Battleboro and Tarboro.
The Imperial Centre for the Arts & Sciences is a must-visit for families traveling through the area. Of the many things you can see and do here, be sure to tour the Maria V. Howard Arts Center, the Children's Museum & Science Center, or the Performing Arts Theatre. You easily spend an entire day at the Imperial Centre.
