Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historic Park: Never Forget
World War II wasn’t just won on the beaches of Normandy or in the sands of Africa. It was also won on the home front by men and women who made efforts and sacrifices to mobilize the country and save the world from the Axis powers. Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historic Park honors the legacy of the U.S. home front during the war.
Situated on the waterfront in Richmond, California, this national park was established in 2000 and features interactive exhibits, films, and unique historical sites. Visit the Kaiser Richmond Shipyards, which built as many as three ships a day during the war. At Shipyard #2, you’ll find the Rosie the Riveter memorial, which celebrates the cultural icon and the many women who went to work in factories and shipyards. Tour the SS Red Oak Victory ship, now a museum. See a tank factory and other facilities built to support the war efforts, and pay your respects to the Americans who sacrificed everything for freedom.
