Outdoor Adventures in Whiskeytown National Recreation Area
During the California Gold Rush, intrepid adventurers flocked to the glistening blue waters of Whiskeytown Lake – and they still come today, lured by the pristine landscape and exciting outdoor adventures. The lake’s crystal-clear waters are just the beginning; you’ll also find gurgling mountain streams, four gorgeous waterfalls, and 70 miles of inviting trails through the forest. You may even stumble upon an 1850s Gold Rush settlement.
Encircled by mountain peaks, Whiskeytown Lake is the focal point of the park. It’s easy to reach from Redding, which is just 10 miles to the east. Go water skiing, scuba diving, kayaking, boating, fishing, sailing, and swimming in the placid waters. Bask in the sun on 36 miles of shoreline. Lace up your boots for a hike through the forest or get your thrills on a mountain bike. Ride an ATV to the Shasta Bally summit. See wildlife and wildflowers throughout Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. Find a little slice of Northern California paradise.
