He was instrumental in the protection of California’s Sierra Nevadas, including the creation of Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks. Six miles of trails meander through groves of towering trees along quiet creeks and peaceful hillsides. Wander through a primeval forest of redwoods that are 500-800 years old. Short, easy trails (some of which are paved) make Muir Woods National Monument easy to access and explore. Biking is popular here, and you can also sign up for ranger-led tours and talks about conservation, climate change, and ecological history. Contemplate the power of nature to inspire tranquility.
