Minor League Baseball in Northern California
Future MLB Sluggers in CA
Major league ballplayers are pretty impressive, that much is for certain. But they all got their start somewhere; many of them by playing minor league baseball here in the Pacific Coast League and California League
Over in CA’s central valley, the Fresno Grizzlies operate as one of two PCL teams in the state.
The Grizzlies play home games at Chukchansi Park in Fresno, serving as the Triple-A affiliate of Major League Baseball’s Houston Astros.
Just north of there, the Sacramento River Cats also compete in the PCL, playing their home games at Raley Field in Sacramento.
Keep your eyes peeled for future San Francisco Giants during River Cats games.
California’s central valley is also home to handful of CL teams; down in Bakersfield, check out the Bakersfield Blaze as the play pitch, bunt, and steal at Sam Lynn Ballpark. The Blaze are affiliates of the Seattle Mariners.
In Visalia, future Arizona Diamondbacks are polishing their game at Recreation Park. The Visalia Rawhide have been Dbacks affiliates since 2007.
CA’s high desert is remarkably beautiful, but it’s awfully competitive in the summer. Take in a High Desert Mavericks ballgame at Heritage Field at Stater Bros. Stadium this summer.
The Inland Empire – as diverse as it is densely populated – comes fit with several baseball teams; check out Inland 66er games at San Manuel Stadium in San Bernardino, the Lake Elsinore Storm at the Lake Elsinore Diamond (the biggest ballpark in the CL), or the Lancaster JetHawks at the Hanger in Lancaster.
Getting to and from Dodger Stadium in the summer can be a drag, so why not check out the next best thing? The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes are right down the road at Loanmart Field in RC, and often feature future Los Angeles Dodgers on the diamond.
Up north, Bay Area baseball fans venture to communities like Modesto, San Jose, and Stockton for summer minor league action. Check out the Modesto Nuts at John Thurman Field, the San Jose Giants at San Jose Municipal Stadium, or the Stockton Ports at Banner Island Ballpark.
