Discover the Best of North Central Nevada

The mountains and valleys of North Central Nevada are what draw thousands of visitors to the region every year. This part of Nevada has its roots in the gold mining industry and is now a popular destination for scenic road trips. You aren’t likely to see much traffic as you make your way along US Highway 50, nicknamed the Loneliest Road in America by Life Magazine.

This part of Nevada is also known as the Pony Express Territory because the highway follows the original route of the Pony Express. As you veer off the highway, you’ll find plenty of fun activities to enjoy around Fallon. Spend an afternoon at the Stillwater Wildlife Refuge or visit the Fort Churchill ruins. Sand Mountain, just east of Fallon, is the giant sand dune that’s become a popular spot for ATVers and sand boarding activities.

Don’t forget to stop by Austin to shop for some turquoise jewelry and other souvenirs. You’ll find several great local restaurants here and can spend some time exploring area museums.
