Visit the Lake Mead National Recreation Area
Located just east of the Las Vegas metro area, this recreation area is home to two stunning lakes and miles of hiking and mountain biking territory. Thousands of fishing and boating enthusiasts flock to the shores of Lake Mead and Lake Mohave every season to enjoy the beautiful lakes and other outdoor activities. Lake Mead National Recreation Area encompasses more than 1.5 million acres of land, providing easy access to the canyons, valleys, mountains, and lakes of the region.
The lakes are surrounded by the Mojave Desert, Sonoran Desert, and Great Basin Desert, which means you can enjoy breathtaking views of the lands on your hiking and biking adventure through the site. Hoover Dam also sits in the park so be sure to spend some time exploring this historic site and trekking across the bridge. Spend your days kayaking, canoeing, water skiing, or even sport fishing. Be sure to step out into the desert basins for a short desert hike where you can explore canyons and see a diversity of cacti.
