Re-invented Capital of Cool

Located on the east coast of the South Island, Christchurch is a city of contrasts. It is a place where its residents enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle amid a natural environment world-renowned for its beauty. The city is contemporising post-quake with a new wave of vibrant, creative spaces having emerged from the rubble. Home to a host of eateries and shopping experiences with special focus on spotlighting local talents, Christchurch harbours a growing cosmopolitan ambience which is exciting. Christchurch is the second-largest city in New Zealand and is considered the gateway to the South Island. Bordered by hills and the Pacific Ocean, it is situated on the edge of the Canterbury Plains stretching to the Southern Alps.

Things to do in Christchurch
You won’t run out of things to do in Christchurch. Nowhere else in the world can you ski at a world class alpine resort, play golf, bungy jump, go wind surfing, whale watching and visit world class wineries and gardens, all within two hours of an international airport.
The city centre is comfortingly compact gently winding around the Avon River. On its grassy banks lined with poplars and weeping willows, office workers and visitors join street entertainers, seagulls and ducks for lunch in the sun.
Colloquially known as the “Garden City”, Christchurch is renowned for its sprawling parks and public gardens. There are many to choose from – the Botanic Gardens, centrally-located Hagley Park, the four leafy inner-city avenues and Mona Vale on the banks of the River Avon.

Visiting Aoraki Mount Cook
Aoraki Mt Cook is New Zealand’s and Australasia’s highest mountain at 3755 metres - which along with 27 other mountains that make up the Southern Alps. The scenic and almost painfully picturesque trip from Christchurch to Mt Cook Village is around 330kms. Most visitors break-up the trip with a stopover on Lake Tekapo where stargazing is unparalleled due to the protected dark skies status the location holds. A popular activity in winter is the guided ski experiences on New Zealand’s longest glacier, the Tasman. It’s not necessary to be an experienced mountaineer to enjoy the beauty of the mountains. There are various alpine walks which take about 3 hours and begin close to the village.
