Yerevan is the capital and largest city of Armenia, and one of the world's oldest continuously-inhabited cities. Situated along the Hrazdan River, Yerevan is the administrative, cultural, and industrial center of the country. Yerevan is served by the Zvarnots International Airport of Armenia and offers a number of popular airlines with regular scheduled flights.
The history of Yerevan dates back to the 8th century BC. Yerevan is home to dozens of museums, art galleries and libraries. The most prominent of these are the National Gallery of Armenia, the History Museum of Armenia, the Cafesjian Museum of Art, the Matenadaran library of ancient manuscripts, and the Armenian Genocide museum. Others include the Modern Art Museum, the Children’s Picture Gallery, and the Martiros Saryan Museum. There are many private galleries currently operating with many more opening every year that feature rotating exhibitions and sales.
