Genting Highlands - Fun in Malaysia's mountains

Nestled in the lush, jungle-clad hills of Malaysia, the Genting Highlands is home to a wealth of entertaining activities. The Titiwangsa Mountains form the backbone of the Malay Peninsula, and it was this stunning natural setting that Malaysian conglomerate Genting chose to create a huge tourism park back in the 1970s. The Genting Highlands has since grown into a major international tourism destination, luring visitors from around the world to its theme park rides, casinos and other attractions, including a cable car ride through the mountains. But this hasn't come at the expense of the area's impressive mountain scenery; at 1,760 meters above sea-level, the Genting Highlands retains a sense of seclusion, with the verdant mountains providing a spectacular natural barrier to the outside world. Yet in actual fact, it is only about an hour's drive from Kuala Lumpur and the international airports, making the area incredibly accessible. Book now at Best Western Premier Ion Delemen and discover everything this destination has to offer.

20th Century Fox World

Genting Highlands will soon become home to a major new international theme park, when Hollywood's 20th Century Fox develops its first outdoor attraction in the area. Replacing the former Genting Outdoor Theme Park which closed in 2013, 20th Century Fox World will be a movie-inspired park featuring a series of rides and attractions based on the company's biggest films, including Ice Age, Night at the Museum, Alien vs. Predator and Planet of the Apes. Fans of The Simpsons can also look forward to an area based on the famous cartoon family. 20th Century Fox World is expected to open by the end of 2018.

Genting Skyway

Stretching almost 3.4km, the Genting Skyway was Southeast Asia's longest cable car ride when it opened in the late 1990s. While it serves a practical purpose, transporting visitors from the coach park to the attractions of the Genting Highlands, the Genting Skyway is also an attraction in itself, allowing riders to fly above the jungle canopy and providing spectacular views of the verdant mountains below. The ride can carry more than 2,000 people every hour, with a maximum of eight passengers per gondola and a journey time of approximately 15 minutes. The new Awana Skyway opened in 2016, taking visitors to a new bus terminal and the popular Chin Swee Temple.

Chin Swee Caves Temple

Guests wanting to take a break from the theme parks should head to the Chin Swee Caves Temple. A Taoist complex created on an 11-hectare plot of hillside land in the Genting Highlands, the temple is just a short ride from the park by cable car. Visitors can explore the temple, which features a black statue of Master Chin Swee, visit the elegant multi-tiered pagoda and Giant Buddha statue, or enjoy the spectacular views of the surrounding landscape from this elevated outcrop. The Chin Swee Caves Temple was constructed as part of the Genting Highlands complex and provides a wonderfully spiritual escape from the area’s other attractions.

Genting Highlands Premium Outlets

Genting Highlands Premium Outlets opened in 2017 to provide a major new retail experience to visitors at the park. Developed at a cost of approximately US$50 million, this massive shopping village features 150 outlets across 5.6 hectares of land, with many global fashion brands including Adidas, Hugo Boss, Moschino, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and Superdry, along with luggage, jewellery, home furnishings shops and more. The most attractive thing about the complex is the fact that it offers significant discounts, said to be up to 65% compared to the high street. It also features an array of food and beverage options including Baskin Robbins, Starbucks and Wendy's.

World of Phalaenopsis

The Malay Peninsula is a delight for nature lovers, with a staggering variety of plant species flourishing in the tropical environment. Few flowers represent the elegance and beauty of Southeast Asia better than the orchid, and visitors to the Genting Highlands now have the chance to learn all about these exquisite blooms. Located in Gohtong Jaya, World of Phalaenopsis (or the Orchid Farm as it is better known) features an extensive collection of colorful orchids, with almost 400 varieties on show. The farm is operated by horticultural company Waltex Biotec which also runs orchid boutiques in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya.
