Moldova is a relatively new country with independence gained in 1991.
Chisinau is the capital and is a perfect destination for a short cultural break, taking time to walk the streets of the city and visit some of the many museums within the area. Moldova is famous for its top rated wines, which is the main tourism draw for the country. In 2015 Milestii Mici winery was registered in the Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest wine collection in the world. Moldova’s best known sight is a 13th century Cave Monastery located about a half hour drive from Chisinau. Nearby tourists will also find an information centre, a small museum and a restaurant. Also, impressive cliffs are located in the vicinity, made up of six interlocking caves.
The remains of Turkish bath houses are resting not far in the north. Moldova’s rolling hills and picturesque landscape with woodlands, vineyards, villages and farms is ideal for a variety of outdoor activities. Tourists are also welcome to visit monasteries, wineries and nature reserves while travelling through the beautiful lands of Moldova.
