This attraction is best known for the battle where the Christian Viking king Olav Haraldsson, later known as St.Olav, fell in 1030. The Battle of Stiklestad is a milestone in the introduction of Christianity in Norway, and every year in July the battle is recreated in the outdoor performance “The Game of St. Olav”.
Nidarosdomen
Nidarosdomen is Norway’s most famous church in power to be St. Olav’s grave church. It dates back to the 11th century and was built over the burial site of St. Olav who fell at the battle of Stiklestad. It is an important pilgrimage destination, and people from all over the world come to visit. During summer time you can go up the tower where you follow 172 steep steps through dark and narrow passages. Once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with a fantastic view of the city and the fjord.
