Visit Alabama’s Horseshoe Bend National Military Park
Alabama’s Horseshoe Bend National Military Park commemorates the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in 1814. Located along the banks of the Tallapoosa River, the park is accessible from US-80 and AL-49 near Daviston. View a film about the Creek War at the Visitor Center before you begin your tour. See the route General Andrew Jackson’s 39th Infantry traveled to the landmark spot and learn how the soldiers ultimately won the battle against the Creek Indians.
Explore hiking and nature trails surrounded by majestic pine trees, or enjoy a scenic drive along Tour Road. The road makes a loop around the battlefield with interpretive signage along the way. One of the stops is Tohopeka Village, a Native American camp from the early 1800s. Kayak or canoe along the Tallapoosa River or take a motorboat to Lake Martin. The nearby Horseshoe Bend Visitor Center offers additional multi-media exhibits and extensive background materials on the military park. Sign up for adult and children’s educational programs or pick up souvenirs at the gift shop.
