Tour Famous And Little Known Historic Sites In Colorado

The Centennial State has a colorful past that includes gold and silver mining, historic railroads and cliff dwellings. At many of the historic sites in Colorado you’ll feel as if you’ve traveled back in time.

Bent’s Old Fort Site in La Junta features living history tours. First established as a trading post for Southern Cheyenne and Arapaho Plains Indians, the site was later occupied by pioneers William and Charles Bent.

Chautauqua Auditorium in Boulder is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Constructed in 1898, it was the site of the state’s first Colorado Chautauqua. Today it is used for a variety of community events including the Colorado Music Festival.

Historic downtown Loveland was founded in the late 1800s. Listed as a National Historic District, the former railroad town has 45 architecturally significant buildings that are prime examples of Classical, Romanesque and Mission Revival styles.

The Hovensweep Monument consists of six prehistoric villages. Located near Cortez in southern Colorado, the attraction includes archaeological sites and hiking trails.

Windsor Arts and Heritage Center is within walking distance of old town Windsor and the Windsor Museum at Boardwalk Park. See a historic railroad depot from 1892 and artifacts from the town’s history.
