Explore Joshua Tree National Park
One of the biggest desert regions in southern California, this national park boasts dozens of recreational activities year round. You can spend an entire day trekking across the desert and can see sites including Skull Rock and Ryan Mountain. This is a popular destination for hiking adventures because you’ll find miles of hiking paths and backcountry roads ripe for exploring.

One of the best ways to explore this area is by going on the Keys Ranch Guided Walking Tour. If you’re in the mood for a challenging hike, head off on the 49 Palms Oasis three-mile trek to see the palm trees and water oasis. Lost Horse Mine & Mountain is a four-mile hike that leads you up to a summit to over 5,000 feet above ground.
Skull Rock is one of the most famous landmarks here, a giant boulder that looks like a skull. It’s been shaped by years of wind and water erosion and you can climb right up to it to see its unique formation. Be sure to head here after sunset to enjoy some beautiful stargazing opportunities.
