Experience New York’s Nonstop Sporting Action

When you take a trip to New York, you’ll find no shortage of world-class sports action. Whatever games or events you prefer, the Empire State has something for you.

Go to New York City and see Major League Baseball action at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx or Citi Field in Queens. Midtown Manhattan is where the basketball and hockey fans need to be. Get yourself to Madison Square Garden and watch the NBA’s Knicks take the hardwood or the NHL’s Rangers dominate the ice. Take a ride out to Brooklyn and watch the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets and the NHL’s New York Islanders at Barclays Center.

New York’s city boroughs aren’t the only ones with all the happenings. Head on up to Buffalo and catch plenty of hot sports action in the City of Light. See an NFL game featuring the Bills at New Era Field in Orchard Park or NHL sporting thrills with the Sabres at KeyBank Center in downtown Buffalo.

This is where the hidden gem of minor league baseball comes in to provide family-friendly entertainment and professional-quality competition. Plus, it’s less expensive too.

When you’re in the city, see a Brooklyn Cyclones game at MCU Park; the Class-A affiliate of the New York Mets. Experience what the rest of the state has to offer baseball fans by catching a game with the Auburn Doubledays; the Class-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals; at Falcon Park II in Auburn, just south of Syracuse. Watch the Buffalo Bisons; Triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays; at Coca-Cola Field in downtown Buffalo.

For those of you who would rather hit a racetrack than watch a ballgame, there’s plenty for you in the Empire State as well. Monticello Motor Club is tucked right in the Catskills Region and covers 175 acres with a four-mile track while functioning as both a private racetrack and an automotive resort.

The horse racing fans out there have to check out Belmont Park in Hempstead. Go see the oldest racetrack in the United States at Saratoga Raceway & Casino in Saratoga Springs, just north of Albany.

You golfers will have plenty of courses to play, no matter what part of the state you’re in. Clearview Golf Course is a beautiful 18-hole, par-70 course and it’s not too far from Brooklyn and Queens. Craig Wood Golf Course in Lake Placid is renowned for its jaw-dropping scenic views. Dyker Beach Golf Course is always a top destination for golfers spending time in Brooklyn. Find one of the great courses that are open to the public at Hillendale Golf Course in Ithaca.

For the novice golfers taking a trip to New York, or those looking for an indoor golfing center that’s open to the public in the winter, a must-stop on the itinerary is Oliver D. Appleton Golf course on the campus of St. Lawrence University in Canton. South Hills Golf Course in Jamestown is also a beautiful course that’s open to the public. The course at Tanner Valley is a must-play for those visiting Syracuse.

The skiers and snowboarders may be the happiest people during the frigid winter months and when you hit the slopes at Belleayre Mountain in Kingston, your spirits will be warmed up too. Bristol Mountain Ski Resort in the Finger Lakes region of western New York has 160 acres on which to ski, offering night skiing as well as cross-country skiing.

If you’re up for the challenge, hit the slopes of Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort with the longest vertical drop at 3,430 feet in the states. Take the family to upstate New York and have a fun-packed day at Dry Hill in Watertown.

No matter what your favorite activities and spectacles are, there is always fun to be had when New York is your backdrop.
